  • 7 Signs Your Salt Lamp is Fake!

    4 min read

Demand for Himalayan salt lamps has increased year after year! We’ve all grown to understand and love their benefits and worthy news spreads fast. That’s why Himalayan salt products have quickly become a favorite natural health gadget of all time!

But, increase in demand also means suppliers who can’t get a hold of the real thing, find shortcuts to create fake products that they sell for cheap. We want to let you in on a secret: There are clear signs to tell if your Himalayan Salt lamp is Fake. Now, you can watch out for them prior to purchasing.

7 Definite Signs your Salt Lamp is Fake

    The Salt Lamp is Unbreakable

Himalayan Salt lamps are literally blocks of pink salt and as with any real block of salt, it can chip or even break if dropped from high points. On the other hand, salt lamp replicas will be highly durable and resistant to damage.

    The Salt Lamp is Cheap

Authentic Himalayan salt lamps originate in the Punjab region of Pakistan. The salt is mined, shaped and produced. Then it is distributed, we know this process well at Himalayan Trading Co. because we do it ourselves and it is costly. Salt lamps should cost approximately $3.00-$4.50 per pound at retail price. If the lamp is TRULY from the Himalayan Mountain range, the cost of mining the lamps, then the voyage from there to the USA is extremely expensive. So, if the price seems too good to be true, then it probably is!

The company doesn’t have a warranty or a return policy

Due to the fragility of the salt lamps, companies who sell authentic ones, offer great warranty policies and exceptional customer service. Credible suppliers are aware of the possibility of cracks in the salt lamps, chips and broken parts so they have a dedicated team to deal with this. Stay away from salt lamps with no existing warranty!

The Salt Lamp is NOT sourced from Pakistan

ALL Himalayan salt lamps originate from the Punjab province in Pakistan. The salt lamp you purchase should mention that somewhere on the packaging. If it mentions somewhere other than Pakistan or if it fails to state a country of origin completely, then it is most likely a replica. Himalayan Trading Co. holds a certificate of authenticity that any customer can ask for, so should other credible suppliers.

    Your Salt Lamp doesn’t Sweat

Himalayan salt is said to have hygroscopic properties. In simple terms, this means that the salt crystals naturally attract and absorb water molecules from their environment. This occurs even more so when there is humidity in the air. So, if you’re concerned about your salt lamp sweating, remember that is actually a sign of authenticity. The real concern is if it never sweats!

Your Salt Lamp Emits a Very Bright Light

Due to the density of the salt, salt lamps emit it a low warm glow. If you are looking for a lamp that acts as a bright reading light like most of the traditional desk or floor lamps, salt lamps will not do the job. This is why most salt lamps are used to complement a space or as a night light, rather than being the main light source.

You don’t feel any of the Health Benefits

If you're not experiencing any of the benefits associated with Himalayan Pink Salt, then something is wrong and I can assure you, it definitely has to do with how Real your salt lamp really is! Learn more about the amazing benefits here:
